The Mississippi Sound: Through the eye of the dolphin

 The mission of the  Mississippi Sound Coalition aims to restore and protect the ecosystem of the Mississippi Sound estuary, as well as the way of life and economies of coastal communities that depend on it. If we don't take action to find ways to mitigate the harmful effects caused by the Bonnet Carré Spillway and other freshwater pollution entering the Gulf, the communities and marine life in this area will be seriously endangered. Time-Lapse: Oysters filtering water

Oysters provide much-needed filtration of Chesapeake Bay waters, habitat for other aquatic life, and a modest commercial harvest. The Chesapeake Bay Foundation estimates the native oyster population to be as low as 4 percent of historic levels. Restoring the Chesapeake's native oyster population is key to bringing back the Bay's health.
